How to prepare for the test
Take a shower before the test. Do not put any lotion, baby oil or cream on your skin.
If you take any medication for pain do not stop them.
If you take any blood thinner inform the neurologist for instructions if you need to hold them

A small area of skin is numbed with a local anesthetic. A tiny sample is then taken using a specialized tool. The sample is sent to a laboratory where nerve fiber density is analyzed.
The procedure is quick and typically completed within minutes.
What to expect
Patients can expect minimal discomfort. After the procedure, the area may be slightly sore, but normal activities can usually be resumed the same day.
